Hello Tiger Families,
I am excited to be a part of the Mount Pleasant Family! It is an honor to serve the students, faculty, and a community that exhibits the mantra of “One Town, One Team”. Mount Pleasant Middle School is a wonderful place that seeks to educate the whole child through building positive and impactful relationships, providing engaging and meaningful instruction properly aligned to standards, providing memorable experiences that foster a desire for lifelong learning, and celebrating student success and character.
Originally from Elkin, NC, I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill – Go HEELS! My teaching career began in Fayetteville, NC where I was a high school history teacher and basketball coach. I joined Cabarrus County Schools in 2012 where I taught at the Early College High School. I participated in the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program and attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I also served as a Principal Intern at Harris Road Middle School. Since then, I have served as an administrator at Hickory Ridge Middle School and Concord Middle School. In 2020 I became the Principal at Mount Pleasant Elementary. In March of 2022, I was honored to become the Principal of Mount Pleasant Middle School.
My wife, who is also a Cabarrus County Schools educator, and I love being a part of the Cabarrus County community. We enjoy exploring the area, traveling, and spending time with our dog Max. I am looking forward to a great year ahead. Go Tigers!
Mr. Andy Maness, Assistant Principal

My name is Andy Maness and I have had the great privilege of being an assistant principal here at Mount Pleasant Middle School for seven years now. I had an unusual childhood living around the world with a father that served in the army as an army chaplain. My mother was an elementary school teacher. After traveling with my father as an “Army Brat”, I settled back in North Carolina and attended High Point University, obtaining a degree in Psychology. After graduation, I worked 12 years as an insurance claims adjuster. I found my calling when I moved into education and became a special education teacher at Archdale Trinity Middle School. After four years in the special education classroom, I obtained my license to teach math and taught math at Lincoln Academy in Greensboro, followed by three years at Southwest High School. I met my lovely wife Heather and moved to be with her in Kannapolis and taught at Harris Road Middle School.
I earned a Masters in School Administration from Appalachian State University and I have served as an assistant principal here at Mount Pleasant for my administrative career.
I have two daughters that are both involved in education. My daughter, Mandy, presently works in a pre-k school in Graham, while my daughter, Molly, is a first-grade teacher at Our Lady of Grace in Greensboro. My wife works at CMTA, an engineering company in Charlotte.
I keep busy outside of school playing soccer and going to the gym. I’m also a competitive bagpipe player and am a member of Jamestown Pipes and Drums.
It is going to be a great year here at Mount Pleasant. I look forward to meeting all my new students in 6th grade as they transition to middle school.
Laura Dean, Assistant Principal
I am thrilled to join the Mount Pleasant Middle School family as an assistant principal! I look forward to supporting the students of Mount Pleasant Middle School in a safe learning environment where they can thrive academically and socially. I am excited to serve the families and community of Mount Pleasant to ensure our students have a strong foundation for high school and beyond.
I am originally from Buffalo, NY, and I am a loyal Buffalo Bills fan! I attended the State University of New York at Brockport for my undergraduate degree. After graduation, I began teaching at Frederick Douglass Middle School in the Rochester City School District in Rochester, NY. I moved to North Carolina and served the Northwest Cabarrus High School community as a Spanish teacher for ten years. I graduated from Queens University of Charlotte with a Masters in Educational Leadership. I began my career in school administration at William A. Hough H.S. in CMS as a Dean of Students.
My partner, Matthew, and I have three little dogs who are very spoiled. We love to travel with them to the mountains and the beach as time permits. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with your children.
GO TIGERS!!
